In Blue Reverie, flowers emerge from a dense, expressive arrangement of green, blue, and dark organic forms against an intense cobalt-blue background. The familiar image of a floral still life becomes something less predictable: a layered composition where botanical forms, ornamental fragments, and spontaneous gestures interact. Fine linear marks stretch across the blue field, creating movement and visual tension. At the center, fragments of white, yellow, and patterned surfaces interrupt the mass of deep greens, while the muted ochre vase anchors the composition. The contrast between the vivid blue background and the dense floral structure gives the painting a distinctive presence. Executed in acrylic on textile, the work brings painting into dialogue with the material qualities of fabric. Visible textures, layered marks, and decorative fragments create a surface that feels both constructed and spontaneous. Rather than depicting flowers as a conventional still life, Mary approaches the subject through abstraction, memory, and the expressive possibilities of unconventional materials.
